Attend a Community Listening Session

The City of Martinez's Anti-Racism & Discrimination and Pro-Inclusion & Equity (ARDPIE) Task Force launched a community engagement process this summer to reaffirm its commitment to fight systemic racism and inequities within the City's policies and programs. To support this work, the City contracted with CPS HR, a reputable expert with decades of experience in helping local governments improve diversity, equity and inclusion within their organizations.

"The City of Martinez is demonstrating through this work that we are committed towards making Martinez a more welcoming and inclusive community for all,” explained ARDPIE Task Force Chairperson Satinder Malhi. “My fellow Task Force members and I have been hard at work garnering community feedback to measure how safe and welcome residents feel in our city. The third-party expertise will help ensure the feedback converts into concrete actions.”

The process so far has included regular Task Force meetings, both in-person and virtual outreach by the Task Force to stakeholder groups, and a community survey (that just closed in September). As a critical next step, the Task Force will be holding three listening sessions in October -- two at local parks and one at a local restaurant -- to meet community members where they are at.

Join the Conversation on our Housing Element!

The City is in the process of updating the Housing Element of the City’s General Plan to meet the future housing needs of Martinez for the 2023 through 2031 planning period. Under State law, every city and county in California is required to update its Housing Element to address specific requirements and submit the element to the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). The Housing Element serves as Martinez’s blueprint for meeting the housing needs of our residents, at all economic levels and addressing segments of the population with special housing needs. The Housing Element will include:

  • Assessment of the unique characteristics of Martinez’s population and households
  • Inventory of sites suitable for residential development
  • Assessment of financial and programmatic resources
  • Analysis of constraints to housing production
  • Affirmatively furthering fair housing
  • Comprehensive set of goals, policies, and programs to address current and projected housing needs

As part of the Housing Element Update, we are asking for the community to provide input regarding housing priorities and challenges. Participation from our residents and stakeholders is vital to ensure that our community’s values are identified and articulated in the Housing Element and that the City’s approach provides the best fit for our community’s goals, values, and priorities.
