Patch 8 promises to introduce some of the most requested features to BG3, including cross-play, photo mode and added D&D subclasses for players to dive into as they explore Faerûn. In Baldur's Gate 3's Community Update #30, Larian outlined two major new features added in Patch 8: Cross-Play and Photo Mode. Cross-play, or cross-platform multiplayer, will allow gamers to play Baldur's Gate 3 together, regardless of the platform or device they own the game on. All BG3 players need to access cross-play is a Larian Account to access the online services for this feature. Larian Accounts are already required to use the Cross-Save feature, letting players continue their save file's progression across different platforms where they own Baldur's Gate 3.
Photo Mode is a common feature that gamers love to use for capturing their favorite characters and scenes. With Patch 8, players will be able to toggle Photo Mode from the HUD as a button near the mini-map and snap gorgeous shots in Baldur's Gate 3. Photo Mode will provide many customization features for the camera, including settings for the lens angle and positioning, field of view, exposure, depth of field and focus. Additionally, BG3 players will be able to toggle visibility to remove any playing character, party members, NPCs or enemies in view.

Keeping with the core element of player choice, Baldur's Gate 3 players can choose from a collection of facial expressions and over 40 static and animated poses, allowing for several variations on what characters are doing in the photo. Additionally, players will be able to capture moments from cinematic dialogue scenes and can apply post-processing effects, like color grading, contrast, brightness, saturation and more. Finally, BG3 Patch 8 Photo Mode includes overlay elements like frames and stickers for a decorative touch.

Not only will this offer players a fresh character build to experiment with, but each added subclass includes "new abilities, animations, VFX, summons and cantrips, and unique voiced dialogue lines for the Oathbreaker Knight" to enhance BG3's experience.

With Patch 7, Larian Studios conducted stress testing to get feedback and flag issues before releasing the patch to the public. Similarly, the developers intend to stress test Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8 in early Jan. 2025 with a small group of testers, with more information to come in Community Update #31.
